The owner of Factor Irrigation, Charles "Charlie" Factor, has extensive experience designing large and small irrigation systems. As a partner in the former Affordable Sprinkler Company, he has installed more than 1,000 sprinkler systems in RI and MA since 1991.
Ball fields, parks, condominiums, office buildings, businesses, and residential homes are major aspects of the irrigation business, but it's not just about sprinklers — it's more about personal service, water consumption, reliability, and superior design.

Charlie developed an inexpensive outdoor shut off system in the mid 90's that made service very reliable — eliminating the need for customers to be home for their service appointments, saving clients time and money. In 1995, he designed and installed one of the largest irrigation system in the New England area at Wethersfield Commons in Warwick, RI. The 70 acre, 3,000 head sprinkler system required many hours working with irrigation specialists called in by the manufacturers and the suppliers involved. During this experience, Charlie learned valuable installation techniques that he applied to new residential systems — resulting in systems designed to water lawns much more efficiently while reducing water waste.

Charlie also applies his entreprenurial and straightforward approach to building our business the old fashioned way — one satisfied customer at a time. Factor Irrigation is really a family affair. While Charlie keeps busy providing one-on-one service to our customers and overseeing sprinkler system designs, his spouse and four children all have their roles in the company. Wanda Factor is our longtime Office Manager, overseeing bookkeeping and general office operations with help from their daughter, Allie. Oldest son Josh attends RIC and spends his summers working with the crew. Casey works on the installation crew and attends Bryant College on a football scholarship, while high school sophmore Ben spends his second summer on the crew this year.

Heading the installation crew for the past eight years is Charlie's cousin, John Sundström. John brings his knowledge and experience of operations, especially on big jobs (he personally installed the 37 miles of sprinkler pipe at the Wethersfield Commons Project mentioned above). Prior to working in the irrigation business, John was an auto mechanic for eleven years and maintains all equipment for the company. Currently John manages all new installations and oversees the service department.

Assisting John with new installations is Joseph Simas. Joe has worked with the company for three years. His primary responsibilities are quality control and installation materials. In addition, Joe does a great job managing the young people on the crew. Among those young people are Joe's children. His son, Joe Jr. works with the installation crew while his daughter Audrey works in the office.

Charlie's sister Vicki Gauthier assists Wanda with the customer service and bookkeeping chores. No stranger to the business world, Vicki previously worked for Hospital Trust/Bank Boston/Sovereign Bank prior to joining the Factor Irrigation team.
